Innovative solutions for the energy transition: dena announces the winners of the Start Up Energy Transition Award 2024

The Start Up Energy Transition (SET) initiative of the German Energy Agency (dena) announced the winners of the SET Award 2024 on Tuesday evening. An internationally renowned jury had previously nominated 15 start-ups with the most innovative business models for energy transition and climate protection from over 430 applications.

Berlin, 20 March 2024. The international Start Up Energy Transition Award (SET Award) has been a highlight of the SET Tech Festival in Berlin for eight years. The SET Award is designed to promote innovative ideas and solutions for a sustainable energy future and to drive forward the energy transition. Last night, pioneering start-ups were honored with the award in five different categories: "Clean Energy & Storage", "Mobility & Transport", "Industry", "Buildings & Construction" and "Quality Energy Access & SDG-7".  The award ceremony was attended by international start-ups, investors and prominent guests from business and politics.

Corinna Enders, Chairperson of the Management Board, German Energy Agency (dena), emphasized the importance of the SET Award: "The SET Award not only honors outstanding innovations, it is also an important driver of energy transition. By recognizing and supporting promising start-ups, we are sending a strong signal for the urgently needed transformation of our energy system. This award not only encourages the winners, but also inspires the entire industry to develop and promote innovative solutions to build a sustainable future together. Congratulations to all start-ups on their success".

Winners of the SET Award 2024

The five winning start-ups were announced live from the WECC in Berlin and will each receive €10,000 in prize money for their company. They will also take part in the SET panel at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) on 20 March. This year's SET Award winners:

 

Category: Clean Energy & Storage

Cling Systems, Sweden, www.clingsystems.com
Cling is developing a digital infrastructure and a global service network to accelerate the circular economy. Its Circular Asset Management System (CAM system) provides solutions for the entire value chain, including trade, traceability and transport.

 

Category: Mobility & Transportation

Roam, Kenya, www.roam-electric.com
Roam electrifies motorbikes and buses, focussing on the East African market. The start-up is striving for a future in which all Africans have access to a sustainable, non-fragmented public transport system.

 

Category: Industry

Magnotherm, Germany, www.magnotherm.com
Magnotherm technology is based on solid magnetocaloric materials, magnets and water, and has the potential to revolutionise cooling worldwide. It increases efficiency by up to 40 per cent and completely eliminates refrigerant gases, thereby avoiding direct greenhouse gas emissions.

SolCold, Israel, www.solcold.co
SolCold is developing a sustainable, self-cooling coating that utilises sunlight to reduce the interior temperature of buildings or vehicles without consuming electricity.

 

Category: Quality Energy Access & SDG-7

VIDA, Germany, www.vida.place
VIDA is a map-based geodata software that contributes to achieving the SDGs, in particular SDG 7. It enables users to channel investments, assess sites and monitor impacts in order to implement solar energy solutions.
