Germany and Poland have set ambitious goals to promote the energy transition, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, ensure energy security and secure the prosperity of their citizens: with every PV system, every wind turbine and every electrolyser, Europe is becoming more independent and more competitive. It is up to stakeholders like the municipalities along the common border to ensure the implementation of these goals.
The German-Polish Energy Platform aims to advance the implementation of a transition of the energy system in Poland and Germany through concrete cooperation projects. The German Energy Agency (dena) and the Polish National Energy Saving Agency KAPE (Krajowa Agencja Poszanowania Energii) work together closely to gather actors and expertise from both countries and to implement cross-border projects. The annual German-Polish Energy Transition Forum promotes mutual understanding of the energy policy measures in both countries and invites stakeholders from politics, business and society to exchange their views on them.
Germany and Poland share a 460-kilometre-border. The platform promotes the development of a joint German-Polish energy region in this border area and supports the implementation of practice-based activities, e.g. on cross-border, climate-neutral heat supply.
The German-Polish Energy Platform also examines how energy communities in both countries are structured and makes its key findings accessible to improve the framework conditions, since the decentralised transformation of energy systems offers opportunities for the local implementation of the energy transition by citizens, companies and municipalities.
